Southend boss Chris Powell says ‘it’s good all round’ as he expressed his delight with Southend’s win against Bradford, with both strikers also getting a goal.
“From our performances so far we definitely warranted a win, but we handled the pressure and got a clean sheet as well so there’s a lot we can tick off. We showed our quality. We’ve played better in the other two games and not won but we did enough. I’m really pleased.”
”I think everyone had been a little bit on edge so it’s good to get the first win and clean sheet. The two strikers got the goals and that’s what they are judged on so it’s been good all round.”
Powell was also full of praise about both the goalscorers today.
”Tom is a good player. He works hard, he’s brave, his link up play is good and he gets in the box too. He’s a striker the fans will really grow to like. Cox also got his goal and it’s good for him to be up and running. Simon does a specific role for us. People see him as a striker but he’s a deep lying one and he does two roles almost.”
Southend goalkeeper Mark Oxley went down with an injury midway through the second half, he did however finish the game and Chris Powell, confirmed it was nothing serious by joking about the players reactions after the game.
”The players are all laughing because Mark Oxley had cramp in both legs and nobody knows how because goalkeepers don’t run.”
Southend now go on to face Luton away on Tuesday night.
